Mary Kate McNulty, MT-BC, LPC

Mary Kate McNulty

I am a licensed professional counselor as well as board-certified music therapist. Since 2011, I have served in clinical and supervisory roles in inpatient, residential, and outpatient mental health settings. In that time, I have worked with clients of all ages, ranging from children to older adults. I also teach as an adjunct professor at Immaculata University.

My role in treatment is to serve as a guide to support and empower you in creating positive changes in life.  I use an integrative approach, which means I draw upon a variety of modalities in order to best address the individual needs of each client. Some clients come to therapy to openly process their feelings and experiences, while others prefer to focus on building skills they can use to manage symptoms. My approach is also trauma-informed and culturally responsive.

Some areas of specialization include trauma; depression; anxiety; LGBTQ+ identity; creative and highly sensitive persons; pregnancy/loss/parenthood; life stress; and adolescence and young adulthood. However, I have experience in many additional areas as well.

If desired, music psychotherapy can also be incorporated into treatment.  Music can often be helpful in expressing and processing emotions and experiences when words are not enough. This may include using recorded or live music to support the therapeutic process. Music-based interventions can assist in relaxation, emotional processing, skill-building, and more. Prior experience as a musician is not necessary.
